June 2020 STEP BY STEP CHALLENGE
Welcome to this month’s Step by Step Blog Challenge! Some of our customers have asked, if we would consider creating a simple monthly blog challenge to:
1) Help with ideas to create digital scrapbooking layouts that are quick, but that may also challenge them to use new tools or techniques.
2) Challenge scrappers to get their mojo back for digital scrapping, as many had stepped away from this hobby for various reasons.
3) Provide an inspirational layout as a scraplift starting point to create their own page, and provide instructions for creating the page.
You asked and we were happy to deliver…so welcome to the Dandelion Dust Designs’ Step by Step Challenge!
Each month during 2020 we will bring you a brand new Step by Step Challenge here on the blog. We are excited to host these challenges to help you in any way that we can with digital scrapbooking and preserving your memories.
As the name implies, this challenge will provide you with step by step instructions using a list of ingredients, that you must include on your challenge layout. Just as in cooking or baking, you need a list of ingredients and specific instructions to make a yummy recipe, so we will provide you with both, to help you create an amazing layout of your own, and perhaps teach you about a new tool or trick along the way.
CHALLENGE PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
Your layout must include everything in the list of ingredients posted in each month’s challenge. You may add more ingredients if you wish.
Your layout must be made using at least 80% of Dandelion Dust Designs’ products, so grab those DDD Kits from your stash.

LET’S GET STARTED
We will begin with this month’s inspiration layout. It was created by our amazingly talented Creative Team Artist Shana and she used our Hello June 2020 Kit, which is a free kit for our newsletter subscribers. This link will tell you how you can sign up and still receive this freebie kit until June 30th. This page is SO cool, isn’t it!
6 Solid Papers | 3 Patterned Papers | 6 Photos | 2 Different Flowers | 1 Word Strip | 1-2 Stamps | Journaling
In whichever program you use to digitally scrapbook, open a 12″ x 12″ or 3600 x 3600 pixel layer and add a solid white background. Create a new layer and using your Rectangular Marquee Tool, draw a rectangle from the top of your page to the bottom, beginning around the 6″ mark over to the 10″ mark. Fill it with any color you’d like so you can see it against the white background paper. Then clip one of your solid papers to it to create the background for this rectangle.
Again, using your Rectangle Marquee Tool, draw out 8 Rectangles each on their own layer* and add a color to each, so you can tell them apart. Make them just a bit smaller width wise than the large rectangle you created in Step 2. You can make them all the same height or change up the heights like Shana did in her LO. Move the layers around until you are happy with them. * You can make this step a bit quicker, by drawing 1 rectangle and duplicating the layer 7 times, and then simply adjusting the heights of each rectangle if you would like, which will keep the width the same on each one.
Your remaining 5 Solid Papers and your 3 Patterned Papers you will place next, clipping one on each of the 8 rectangles you created in Step 3. Resize the papers if you wish. Next, grab those 6 photos, and place them from the top to the bottom of your page on top of the 8 rectangles you just covered with papers, overlapping the photos as you work your way down the page. Add a thick white stroke to each photo, and then slightly angle a few of the photos. You can see Shana angled the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th photos, leaving the 3rd and 6th photos straight on.
Drag your two different flowers onto your page and duplicate each one twice, so you have 3 of each flower. Place all 6 flowers as you wish on your LO. If you would like to place them like Shana did, that would be 2 to the right of the first photo, 2 to the left of the 4th photo, 1 to the right of the 5th photo and 1 on the left side of the 6th photo. Add your word strip around the middle of the page on the left side tucking one corner of it, under one of the flowers you placed, and then place your journaling in the white space below it. Grab your 1 or 2 stamps, and add those on top of the white background so they appear to be underneath the rectangle you created in Step 2. Recolor the stamp(s) if needed they will show up against the white background.
Your layout is ready for the shadowing to be added, which you can do for everything above the stamp(s) layer, and skip the journaling layer, as it is typically not shadowed. Congratulations – you’ve just created your page for this challenge! Please don’t forget to post it.
One page will randomly be selected to win a $10 Gift Certificate to Dandelion Dust Designs’ Store at GingerScraps and the layout may be shared on our blog and social media accounts.
At the end of 2020, one lucky participant who completes at least 9 out of 12 Step by Step Challenges, will be offered a Guest Creative Team Spot for two months on our Creative Team in 2021.
* The monthly prize winner will be announced here on the blog on the 15th of each month.
