March 2020 Step by Step Challenge
Welcome to this month’s Step by Step Blog Challenge! Some of our customers have asked, if we would consider creating a simple monthly blog challenge to:
1) Help with ideas to create digital scrapbooking layouts that are quick, but that may also challenge them to use new tools or techniques.
2) Challenge scrappers to get their mojo back for digital scrapping, as many had stepped away from this hobby for various reasons.
3) Provide an inspirational layout as a scraplift starting point to create their own page, and provide instructions for creating the page.
You asked and we were happy to deliver…so welcome to the Dandelion Dust Designs’ Step by Step Challenge!
Each month during 2020 we will bring you a brand new Step by Step Challenge here on the blog. We are excited to host these challenges to help you in any way that we can with digital scrapbooking and preserving your memories.
As the name implies, this challenge will provide you with step by step instructions using a list of ingredients, that you must include on your challenge layout. Just as in cooking or baking, you need a list of ingredients and specific instructions to make a yummy recipe, so we will provide you with both, to help you create an amazing layout of your own, and perhaps teach you about a new tool or trick along the way.
Challenge Participation Requirements
Your layout must include everything in the list of ingredients posted in each month’s challenge. You may add more ingredients if you wish.
Your layout must be made using at least 80% of Dandelion Dust Designs’ products, so grab those DDD Kits from your stash.

You must post your layout before 10:00pm PST on March 31, 2020.

Let’s Get Started
First we begin with this month’s inspiration layout. It was created by our amazingly talented Creative Team Artist Alane and she used our Hello March 2020 Kit which is free for our newsletter subscribers. Isn’t Alane’s page just darling!
1 Solid Paper | 1 Patterned Paper | 1 Photo | 1 Frame
1 Brad or Flair | 1 Scribble or Splatter | 2 Different Flowers | 1 Leaf Stem | 1 Ribbon | 1 Word Art | 1 Unique Element (Like the kite in the Inspiration Layout)
In whichever program you use to digitally scrapbook, open a 12″ x 12″ or 3600 x 3600 pixel layer and place your patterned paper onto the layer to create your background. Take your solid paper and place on top of the patterned paper. Use your Rectangular Marquee Tool or a Crop Tool to cut off 1/2″ of the solid paper on the top and 1″ of the solid paper at the bottom, allowing the background paper to show.
Place your scribble or splatter towards the lower left corner of the solid paper. Next, add your photo and place the frame over it and then slightly angle to the left both the photo and frame using your move or similar tool. Open the flowers, leaf stem, ribbon and brad/flair on to your page. Duplicate one of your flowers two times and duplicate your other flower one time. Duplicate your leaf stem and your brad/flairs two times each.
Let’s being putting the elements into place. With the flower you duplicated twice (you should have 3 of this flower), place the first one on top of the scribble or splatter in the left upper corner under the photo and frame. On top of that flower, position one of the leaf stems (you should have 3 of them) on top of the flower you just placed. Add the second flower of the 3 from above and place on top of the first leaf stem.
Place the second leaf stem on top of the scribble or scatter towards the bottom left corner of the photo and frame. Add the ribbon on top of the frame towards the middle left side. Take the first of the second flowers and place it on top of the ribbon. Take the final leaf stem and place it on top of the scribble or splatter under the lower right hand corner of the photo and frame. Place the last of the first flower on top of the leaf stem, followed by the placement of the last of the second flower on top of that moving it slightly to overlap. Position your brads or flairs next. Two in the top right corner of the LO half on the solid paper and half on the patterned paper.
Add the final brad or flair in the lower right corner of the frame and if you wish you may crop out a single leaf from one of the leaf stems and tuck it under this brad or flair. Place your Word Art near the lower right hand corner cluster and place your unique element above or around it. Your layout is now ready for the shadowing to be added, which you can do for everything above the patterned background paper, except for the scribble or splatter (I typically do not shadow these elements, since I don’t want them to look like they are lifting off the page.) Congratulations – you’ve just created your page for this challenge! Please don’t forget to post it.
One page will randomly be selected to win a $10 Gift Certificate to Dandelion Dust Designs’ Store at GingerScraps and the layout may be shared on our blog and social media accounts.
At the end of 2020, one lucky participant who completes at least 9 out of 12 Step by Step Challenges, will be offered a Guest Creative Team Spot for two months on our Creative Team in 2021.
* The monthly prize winner will be announced here on the blog on the 15th of each month.
