May 2020 STEP BY STEP CHALLENGE
Welcome to this month’s Step by Step Blog Challenge! Some of our customers have asked, if we would consider creating a simple monthly blog challenge to:
1) Help with ideas to create digital scrapbooking layouts that are quick, but that may also challenge them to use new tools or techniques.
2) Challenge scrappers to get their mojo back for digital scrapping, as many had stepped away from this hobby for various reasons.
3) Provide an inspirational layout as a scraplift starting point to create their own page, and provide instructions for creating the page.
You asked and we were happy to deliver…so welcome to the Dandelion Dust Designs’ Step by Step Challenge!
Each month during 2020 we will bring you a brand new Step by Step Challenge here on the blog. We are excited to host these challenges to help you in any way that we can with digital scrapbooking and preserving your memories.
As the name implies, this challenge will provide you with step by step instructions using a list of ingredients, that you must include on your challenge layout. Just as in cooking or baking, you need a list of ingredients and specific instructions to make a yummy recipe, so we will provide you with both, to help you create an amazing layout of your own, and perhaps teach you about a new tool or trick along the way.
CHALLENGE PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
Your layout must include everything in the list of ingredients posted in each month’s challenge. You may add more ingredients if you wish.
Your layout must be made using at least 80% of Dandelion Dust Designs’ products, so grab those DDD Kits from your stash.
After your page is completed, post it to one of the following places:
You must post your layout before 10:00pm PST on May 31, 2020.
The winner of this month’s Step by Step Challenge, will be announced on June 15th, here on the blog when the June 2020 Step by Step Challenge is posted.
The winner of the April 2020 Step by Step Challenge is Felicity. Congratulations, Felicity!!!
1 Solid Paper | 1 Patterned Paper | 1 Photo | 1 Frame | 2 Different Flowers | 1 Leaf Stem | 1 Button | 1 Banner | 2 Stamps | 1 Word Art | 3 Unique Elements (Like the Heart, Sticker and Bead Stem in the Inspiration Layout)
In whichever program you use to digitally scrapbook, open a 12″ x 12″ or 3600 x 3600 pixel layer and place your solid paper onto the layer to begin creating your background. Add your patterned paper on top of the solid paper and resize it so the solid paper creates a small border around all four edges of your LO. Place your photo next towards the center left side of your page and frame it.
Grab your two stamps, and place them onto the patterned background paper, tucking them beneath your framed photo. Place one of your unique elements on top of the upper left corner of the frame.
Let’s now place your elements. Duplicate each of the two flowers once, so you have two of each flower for a total of four flowers. Duplicate your leaf stem once, so you have two leaf stems. Place your banner next onto the layout, overlapping it with the frame and securing it with the button (feel free to duplicate your button if you have more than one place you’d like buttons to be placed depending on the banner you use.) Add one of each flower and one leaf stem off the left bottom corner of the frame on top of the left side of the banner to create a cluster. Place the remaining two flowers and leaf stem off the lower right side of your frame on top of the right side of the banner to create a cluster.
You should still have two unique elements left, so tuck them into the cluster you created on the right side of the frame. Add your word art into position, where it looks best on your LO. The inspiration layout has the word art in the center of the page, about two-thirds of the way down the page.
Your layout is ready for the shadowing to be added, which you can do for everything above the solid background paper, except the stamps, which are typically not shadowed. Congratulations – you’ve just created your page for this challenge! Please don’t forget to post it.
One page will randomly be selected to win a $10 Gift Certificate to Dandelion Dust Designs’ Store at GingerScraps and the layout may be shared on our blog and social media accounts.
At the end of 2020, one lucky participant who completes at least 9 out of 12 Step by Step Challenges, will be offered a Guest Creative Team Spot for two months on our Creative Team in 2021.
* The monthly prize winner will be announced here on the blog on the 15th of each month.
