November 2020 Step By Step Challenge
Welcome to this month’s Step by Step Blog Challenge! Some of our customers have asked, if we would consider creating a simple monthly blog challenge to:
1) Help with ideas to create digital scrapbooking layouts that are quick, but that may also challenge them to use new tools or techniques.
2) Challenge scrappers to get their mojo back for digital scrapping, as many had stepped away from this hobby for various reasons.
3) Provide an inspirational layout as a scraplift starting point to create their own page, and provide instructions for creating the page.
You asked and we were happy to deliver…so welcome to the Dandelion Dust Designs’ Step by Step Challenge!
Each month during 2020 we will bring you a brand new Step by Step Challenge here on the blog. We are excited to host these challenges to help you in any way that we can with digital scrapbooking and preserving your memories.
As the name implies, this challenge will provide you with step by step instructions using a list of ingredients, that you must include on your challenge layout. Just as in cooking or baking, you need a list of ingredients and specific instructions to make a yummy recipe, so we will provide you with both, to help you create an amazing layout of your own, and perhaps teach you about a new tool or trick along the way.
CHALLENGE PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
Your layout must include everything in the list of ingredients posted in each month’s challenge. You may add more ingredients if you wish.
Your layout must be made using at least 80% of Dandelion Dust Designs’ products, so grab those DDD Kits from your stash.

You must post your layout before 10:00pm PST on November 30, 2020.

LET’S GET STARTED
We will begin with this month’s inspiration layout from our super talented Creative Team Artist, Lynn. Isn’t this autumnal LO gorgeous? Lynn used our Hello November 2020 Collection to create her page, which was our November Newsletter Collection, exclusively for our newsletter subscribers.
2 Solid Papers | 2 Patterned Papers | 1 Grunge or Stamp | 1 Photo | 1 Banner | 2 Different Flowers | 1 Leaf Stem | 1 Bow | 1 Ribbon | 1 Doily or a Similar Element
In whichever program you use to digitally scrapbook, open a 12″ x 12″ or 3600 x 3600 pixel layer and add one of your solid papers as the background. Take your second solid paper and resize it slightly smaller and place on your background paper, so the background paper peeks out from underneath on all four sides of your layout. Up next, using your crop or rectangular marquee tool, cut one vertical rectangle out of one of your patterned papers and cut one horizontal rectangle out of your other patterned paper. Place the vertical rectangle on your top solid paper off to one side and then place and overlap your horizontal rectangle over the vertical rectangle.
Place your photo on top of the rectangles you just placed on your layout in the last step. Add a crisp white stroke to your photo – Begin with 10 pixels and then adjust up or down for the width of the stroke that works best with your photo.
Duplicate one of your flowers one time so you will have 2 of them, and duplicate your other flower 3 times so you will have 4 of them. Duplicate your leaf stem once so you will have 2 of them. On one of the lower corners of your photo, tuck your doily (or similar element) under the photo and under the horizontal rectangle. Add 1 of the your first flower, 2 of your second flower and 1 leaf stem on top of the photo, create a cluster and place it so the doily is peeking out from beneath. Tuck your ribbon into this cluster and add the bow to the top flower. Take your remaining first flower and remaining two second flowers with your remaining leaf stem and create a cluster, resize a bit smaller and place on the opposite lower corner on top of the photo.
Grab your banner and place it just beneath each cluster to tie the two clusters together. With your grunge or stamp, place it on the top solid paper near one of your clusters
Your layout is ready for shadowing to be added, which you can do for everything above the bottom background paper, minus your grunge/stamp which are typically not shadowed. Congratulations – you’ve just created your page for this challenge! Please don’t forget to post it.
One page will randomly be selected to win a $10 Gift Certificate to Dandelion Dust Designs’ Store at GingerScraps and the layout may be shared on our blog and social media accounts.
At the end of 2020, one lucky participant who completes at least 9 out of 12 Step by Step Challenges, will be offered a Guest Creative Team Spot for two months on our Creative Team in 2021.
* The monthly prize winner will be announced here on the blog on the 15th of each month.
