October 2020 Step By Step Challenge
Welcome to this month’s Step by Step Blog Challenge! Some of our customers have asked, if we would consider creating a simple monthly blog challenge to:
1) Help with ideas to create digital scrapbooking layouts that are quick, but that may also challenge them to use new tools or techniques.
2) Challenge scrappers to get their mojo back for digital scrapping, as many had stepped away from this hobby for various reasons.
3) Provide an inspirational layout as a scraplift starting point to create their own page, and provide instructions for creating the page.
You asked and we were happy to deliver…so welcome to the Dandelion Dust Designs’ Step by Step Challenge!
Each month during 2020 we will bring you a brand new Step by Step Challenge here on the blog. We are excited to host these challenges to help you in any way that we can with digital scrapbooking and preserving your memories.
As the name implies, this challenge will provide you with step by step instructions using a list of ingredients, that you must include on your challenge layout. Just as in cooking or baking, you need a list of ingredients and specific instructions to make a yummy recipe, so we will provide you with both, to help you create an amazing layout of your own, and perhaps teach you about a new tool or trick along the way.
CHALLENGE PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
Your layout must include everything in the list of ingredients posted in each month’s challenge. You may add more ingredients if you wish.
Your layout must be made using at least 80% of Dandelion Dust Designs’ products, so grab those DDD Kits from your stash.
After your page is completed, post it to one of the following places:
You must post your layout before 10:00pm PST on October 31, 2020.

LET’S GET STARTED
We will begin with this month’s inspiration layout, from our fun and talented Creative Team Artist, Jamie. Isn’t this LO so darling? Jamie used our Hello October 2020 Collection to create her page, which was our October Newsletter Collection, exclusively for our newsletter subscribers.
2 Solid Papers | 3 Patterned Papers | 1 Photo | 2 Different Flowers | 1 Foliage/Leaf Stem | 1 String | 1 Bow | 1 Stitching | 1 Pocket Card | 1 Unique Element | 1 Splatter | Font for your Title
In whichever program you use to digitally scrapbook, open a 12″ x 12″ or 3600 x 3600 pixel layer and add one of your patterned papers as the background. Take one of your solid papers and resize it to 9″ x 9″, 10″ x 10″ or 11″ x 11″ and place it in the center of your background paper. Please feel free to play with the size you like best for your page.
With your remaining solid paper and remaining 2 patterned papers, using the Rectangular Marquee Tool or the Crop Tool, cut 1 rectangle paper strip from each paper, making each strip a different height and width from the others. Place all 3 strips on the solid paper stacking each one on top of the other. Take your stitching, and stitch the top paper strip to the middle paper strip along the edges.
Place your photo off center on top of the paper strip/stitching stack you just created. Turn your photo on a slight angle if you wish. Overlap on one corner of your photo, the pocket card and accent it by adding a bow ribbon.
Duplicate one of your flowers one time, and duplicate the other flower two times. Duplicate your foliage/leaf stem one time. On the right side of your photo, place one of each of your two different flowers, and one foliage/leaf stem to form a cluster. On the corner of your pocket card, place the last of your first flower and the second of your other flower to form another cluster, and near the bottom of your paper strip/stitching layers, place your last flower, last foliage/leaf stem and your unique element (such as the pumpkin in Jamie’s LO) to create a third floral cluster on your LO. Add your string to your page, where you feel it works best. You may duplicate the string if you’d like. Take your splatter and place it on top of the solid square paper to accent where it looks best on your page. Using one of your favorite fonts, create a title for your page and place where you like it best.
Your layout is ready for shadowing to be added, which you can do for everything above the background paper, except for the splatter which is not usually shadowed. Congratulations – you’ve just created your page for this challenge! Please don’t forget to post it.
One page will randomly be selected to win a $10 Gift Certificate to Dandelion Dust Designs’ Store at GingerScraps and the layout may be shared on our blog and social media accounts.
At the end of 2020, one lucky participant who completes at least 9 out of 12 Step by Step Challenges, will be offered a Guest Creative Team Spot for two months on our Creative Team in 2021.
* The monthly prize winner will be announced here on the blog on the 15th of each month.
