Journal Notes: September 2026
There is something about September that turns our attention toward the familiar.
Not necessarily to a place, but to the little moments that make a place feel like ours. The routines we return to, the familiar corners we enjoy, and the simple things that remind us that home isn’t just where we live—it’s where our days unfold.
There’s something about this time of year that makes those moments easier to notice. The light begins to change. Evenings arrive a little earlier. Windows stay open when the air feels just right, and suddenly we’re reaching for things we haven’t thought about in months.
Around here, September is less about decorating for a new season and more about noticing that one has quietly arrived.
It’s the photograph discovered while looking for something else. The familiar chair everyone seems to claim first. A package being put together for someone who could use a little piece of home. The small routines that return without anyone officially deciding it’s time.
Maybe that’s why this season feels so familiar. It reminds us that home is made up of far more than rooms and things. It’s built from habits, memories, traditions, and all those ordinary moments we rarely think to photograph while they’re happening.
And somehow, those are often the ones we remember.
Here’s to September—and to noticing a few of them along the way.
